Now Nokia jumps into touchscreen phone business

The touchscreen facility touted as the biggest advantage of the iPhones has caught the fancy of cell phone makers like HTC that has geared up to launch its HTC Touch Diamond. Now the bug has bitten the Finnish Nokia as well, as it prepares to launch its first touchscreen phone, the ‘Nokia 5800 XpressMusic’. The 5800 XpressMusic will come with a 3.2 inch display with a 3.2 mega pixel camera, integrated Wi-Fi. The micro-SD card slot that supports up to 16GB of add-on memory will make sure you save a zillion songs and photos on your phone.

Talking about the music features of the cell phone, Nokia’s ‘Comes with Music’ service in the 5800 XpressMusic will enjoy participation by the big record label like EMI, which was earlier excluded. Other biggies like Sony BMG, Warner Music and Universal Music are already on board. The ‘Comes with Music’ service gives users access to download a wide music library for 12 months following purchase of the phone. The cost of the music licenses is bundled onto the cost of the phone. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone is expected to be launched in North America by early 2009. Nokia has not announced any cell phone plan or service provider for the phone as yet.
