iPhone Apps Selling Faster than iTunes

iPhone users seem to be downloading iPhone apps like there is no tomorrow. The new iPhone 3G which was launched few months back has been breaking records in sales. Now the number of iPhone apps downloaded by the iPhone users has hit the 100 million mark according to Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs. This is almost double the number of iTunes downloaded by iPod users in the first two months of availability, according to a report. The first generation iPhones launched last year have sold about 6 million units so far. The new iPhone 3G crossed the 1 million units in the first weekend of sale, whereas it took 74 days for the first generation iPhone to reach the 1 million mark.

The iPhone apps are applications that help users take advantage of all the iPhone features. Most of the apps are free and few others are paid apps. Depending on the kind of iPhone plan they have chosen, users can either download the apps through iTunes or directly from their cell phones. The apps range across diverse sectors like games, finance, education, entertainment and so on. There are debates that the apps have been a hit largely because most of them are free to download. At the end of the day what is really important is that iPhones have become a huge hit with the users and that is what matters to Apple.
