Do you have Obama on your iPhone

The Presidential election fever has hit the iPhone as well. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama after hitting social networking site Facebook with over 1 million friends and campaigning through YouTube will now be available in iPhones. The Democrats have come out with a new application Obama ‘08 which connects the user to Obama’s campaigning with all the tools required to stay in the know. The app is available in iPhone app store or can be downloaded free of cost depending on your iPhone plan.

Some of the features of the ‘Obama ‘08′ include ‘Call friends’ that helps organize and call contacts based on key battleground states, reminder service to remind friends on election day, finding local Obama supporters, updates on latest news regarding the campaign via text messages, finding local events, browsing media reports and photos on the campaign, facts about Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s plan for essential issues facing Americans. “With Obama ‘08, you have the information and tools necessary to help deliver the change we need come this November” goes the advertising campaign. Now that’s what is called, ‘Catching ‘em young’.

Now Nokia jumps into touchscreen phone business

The touchscreen facility touted as the biggest advantage of the iPhones has caught the fancy of cell phone makers like HTC that has geared up to launch its HTC Touch Diamond. Now the bug has bitten the Finnish Nokia as well, as it prepares to launch its first touchscreen phone, the ‘Nokia 5800 XpressMusic’. The 5800 XpressMusic will come with a 3.2 inch display with a 3.2 mega pixel camera, integrated Wi-Fi. The micro-SD card slot that supports up to 16GB of add-on memory will make sure you save a zillion songs and photos on your phone.

Talking about the music features of the cell phone, Nokia’s ‘Comes with Music’ service in the 5800 XpressMusic will enjoy participation by the big record label like EMI, which was earlier excluded. Other biggies like Sony BMG, Warner Music and Universal Music are already on board. The ‘Comes with Music’ service gives users access to download a wide music library for 12 months following purchase of the phone. The cost of the music licenses is bundled onto the cost of the phone. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone is expected to be launched in North America by early 2009. Nokia has not announced any cell phone plan or service provider for the phone as yet. To know how the new Nokia phone will fare against the other touchscreen phones in terms of service you can do a cell phone plan comparison online.

Is AT&T stamping on customer rights?

The recent 8000 words service agreement sent to the customers by cell phone service provider AT&T has largely met with negative response. Among other things the new service agreement states that the customers will be given a 30 day notice to announce price increase of their cell phone service plans, only if the price increase is ‘commercially reasonable’. To view all the terms and conditions relating to their service the customers have to download a separate guide book that runs to 2500 pages. And if they are still unhappy with their cell phone plan, they may well leave.

State regulators have already taken the issue into hand and are looking to see if AT&T is violating customer rights. AT&T has been defending its action stating that it ‘provides customers with more direct information on their rights’. So before you choose a service provider it is better that you compare cell phone plans and choose the right one that meets your needs.

iPhone Apps Selling Faster than iTunes

iPhone users seem to be downloading iPhone apps like there is no tomorrow. The new iPhone 3G which was launched few months back has been breaking records in sales. Now the number of iPhone apps downloaded by the iPhone users has hit the 100 million mark according to Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs. This is almost double the number of iTunes downloaded by iPod users in the first two months of availability, according to a report. The first generation iPhones launched last year have sold about 6 million units so far. The new iPhone 3G crossed the 1 million units in the first weekend of sale, whereas it took 74 days for the first generation iPhone to reach the 1 million mark.

The iPhone apps are applications that help users take advantage of all the iPhone features. Most of the apps are free and few others are paid apps. Depending on the kind of iPhone plan they have chosen, users can either download the apps through iTunes or directly from their cell phones. The apps range across diverse sectors like games, finance, education, entertainment and so on. There are debates that the apps have been a hit largely because most of them are free to download. At the end of the day what is really important is that iPhones have become a huge hit with the users and that is what matters to Apple.
