The contact list of any average cell phone user will have contact numbers numbering over a hundred. But how many of them do we actually call often. Most of the numbers are that of long lost friends, relatives whose numbers have changed and people whom we do not require to keep in touch any more. Most of the calls made by an average individual are to spouse/partner, children and other close family members or friends.

In such cases, it is wise to have cell phones family plans that have special low rates for family members whom we add to our list. That way, we can avoid paying hefty bills for calls that we will never make. It is possible to choose the best cell phone rate plans and compare cell phone plans online.

Credit card for online purchase? Fear no more

For many of us worried about the safety of using credit cards for online purchases, Visa Europe has come out with a new credit card with a keypad and digital number display that ensures that the card owner has control over the usage of the card. This new card looks like any other normal credit card with the card number and magnetic strip for swiping. Instead of a security code number, the card users are given a PIN number which they will type using the keypad. A one-time use security code will be displayed, using which the user can make online transactions.

A lot of banks have joined Visa in its pilot study for the new credit card and we have to wait and see which issuer comes out with a credit card offer for this new high-on-security credit card. Meanwhile we can also try to do some credit card comparison to find who issues the best rates, deals and attractive credit card offers.

Pre-paid or Post paid- What does the US choose?

The concept of pay-as-you-go prepaid cellphone plans have not really taken off the US, though they are quite popular in Europe and many parts of Asia. With strict 1 or 2 year service contracts and hefty termination fees for post paid cell phone plans, many cell phone users in the US have also started going prepaid. In addition a prepaid card, where you pay in advance and get specific Talktime helps you keep a tab on your cell phone expenses.

So there is no question of getting a shock seeing a huge cell phone bill at the end of the month. For both prepaid and postpaid cell phone service it is possible to compare cell phone plans and choose the best cell phone plans that suit our usage.

Call it an imbibed habit or the result of financial crisis; Americans are using their cell phones more to texting messages than to make calls, according to a Nielsen Mobile survey. In the second quarter of 2008, US mobile subscribers sent and received an average of 357 text messages per month as against making and receiving 204 phone calls a month, the survey adds.

The recent increase in texting could be related to the recent financial crisis that has left lesser money for the average American to spend. Because in most cellphone plans  texting works out much cheaper than making calls and a few plans have unlimited texting option. In fact, teenagers between the age of 13-17 text the most with an average of 1,742 messages sent and received a month, the survey adds. Thankfully there are many websites that compare cell phone plans and help in choosing the best cell phone plans.

Flickr on iPhone now

Photo sharing on your iPhone has become easier now. Popular favorite photo-sharing software Flickr is now available on iPhones. Flickr recently pulled the wraps on its iPhone plans with the launch of an iPhone optimized version of its site. The new iPhone optimized version is a tweak of Flickr’s application for mobile phones, www.m.flickr.com. Basic tools for online photo sharing like view, search are available in the mobile version. However, the edit feature is missing here. Considering that mobile phone screens are too small to edit pictures, I guess the feature wouldn’t be missed much.

Even the Slideshow and Flash related features are missing, since iPhone 3G still does not support Flash player. Using Flickr’s iPhone version the user can check recent photo updates by contacts, read comments and update photos through email using iPhone. If you are always on the go and want to keep your folks updated on what you have been up to, you can use the Flickr for iPhone. Check your cell phone service provider for more on the iPhone plans for photo sharing. Compare cell phone plans to get the best cell phone plans.
